The idea is that the hormones in pregnancy cause tooth decay - actually gum decay which then leads to tooth decay. So more women have problems with their teeth when they're pregnant than when they aren't. So the proverb probably came about because in the old times, when women were pregnant and they had a bad tooth, they'd just pull it.

OUCH..sorry to hear of your dentist trauma. I myself don't look forward to seeing them. It is a necessary eveil..

I've had two root canals. It wasn't too bad, more the ache of keeping your jaw open for 2 hours and like you said here, that they numb it enough! Once, he did hit a nerve..because it wasn't numb enough. When they fixed that, everything was OK.

It didn't hurt after the novocaine wore off. Didn't even need tylenol or ibruprofen. I was surprised but HAPPY! Will pray your experience won't be so bad.

I've actually never had a bad dentist experience so I'd probably count this as my worst. He had to shoot me three times with Novocaine, but it still hurt. So he pulled out the big guns and used what they use for pulling wisdom teeth. That worked, but as a result, my mouth was numb for 4 hours and after it wasn't numb, I wished that it still was! My jaw is still sore from the needles. But my tooth is great! SO as long as he can get the Novocaine right before doing the root canal, I think I'll be fine :-)

Oh dear! Sorry to read this and sorry you are going thru it. Calcium, calcium, calcium (with magnesium, of course...) It's like one must be taking in nutrition all the time to just keep the old body going; and then the stress of bearing a child just ups the ante.
