Thankgiving

We recently had a thanksgiving service where 5 elders/deacons were asked to talk about what they were thankful for.¬? One of the deacons mentioned that thankfulness was a condition of the heart.¬? A truly thankful heart is thankful even in adverse circumstances.¬? Which made me think of a forwarded email I received a while back and ever since I read it, thankfulness has taken on a whole new meaning.¬? I don’t have the email anymore, but I think I can reconstruct a few of them so that you get the gist.¬? My prayer is that this posts makes you think about being thankful when things don’t seem so great (the following are pretty trivial, but it can be extended to heavier topics as well).

  • I am thankful when I park at the far end of the parking lot because that means I have a car to drive and two legs to get me the rest of my destination
  • I am thankful when our phone bill is more than anticipated because that means I’ve been able to talk to many friends and family
  • I am thankful when my computer gets the blue-screen-of-death (Mac users don’t know what I’m talking about so substitute logic card fails) because that means I have a computer to use
  • I am thankful when I have a pile of laundry to do because that means I have clothes to wear every day
  • I am thankful when my gas tank is empty because that means I’ve been able to go to church, visit friends, and put in a good days work
  • I am thankful when I have to grocery shop because that means we’ve had a full and nutritious meal 3 times a day
  • I am thankful when my neighbors play very loud obnoxious music because that means I have the opportunity to go talk to my neighbor and get to know them better
  • I am thankful when …. because …. (please post to this reply and fill in your own!)

I am thankful for all of you as well – the Lord has raised you up to be a blessing to us so thank you!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
