Babies – brings people together
So we’re finding that having a baby is a big draw for complete strangers to talk to us. On one of our walks downtown, we stopped by some neighbors that live behind us. We see them quite often in their garden (it’s a beautiful garden and seems to be non-stop work for them) and say “hi”. They watched my progression during my pregnancy (a little closer than I thought as you’ll soon see) and were quite delighted to finally meet our little one.
We stopped to talk for about 20 minutes and had a nice conversation. They kept repeating how children are such a blessing from God and how every day is a gift. They ooed and awed over little Lilli and related how they wanted to have children themselves, but were not able. This was a bit hefty of a subject upon our first or second conversation with them, but we’re glad that Lilli is opening up doors for us to talk with our neighbors and get to know them.
At any rate, towards the end of the conversation, she says to us: “On January 1, I saw you throw up in the bushes and I thought: Either she’s pregnant or she had too much to drink on New Year’s Eve.” That was quite embarrassing to realize that someone had watched that whole scenario. That was the first and hopefully last time I threw up in public in someone else’s bushes and to know that they saw the whole thing! She said she thought I was more likely pregnant because Thadd was so loving to me during the process
At any rate, just goes to show that the neighbors are really ALWAYS watching

LOL!!! I know at work I am watched!! That is a story in itself..and students when you ask them to give you feedback at the end of a course, it’s scary what they say sometimes!
Glad you were able to make some kind of connection. Yes, it was brave of them to disclose not being able to have kids. Maybe this will lead to something more down the line. Interesting how they didn’t seem bitter and saw it as from God’s hand.
HILARIOUS. You just never know who’s watching!
That is too funny Laura! Yes, babies do bring people together….you are going to get (as I’m sure you already know) more unsolicited information than you know what to do with!
Have fun.
